Two-way solar and lunar conversion with ganzhi and zodiac
Solar → Lunar
Lunar → Solar
How to Use
The Chinese lunar calendar is a lunisolar calendar with leap months and solar-term adjustments; converting from solar to lunar requires a lookup table. This tool embeds lunar data for 1900-2100 and supports solar-to-lunar (with ganzhi year and zodiac) as well as lunar-to-solar (with weekday).
How to use: in Section A, pick a solar date and click "To Lunar" to get the lunar date, ganzhi year, and zodiac; in Section B, choose a lunar date from the dropdowns (leap months are listed as "Leap X") and click "To Solar" to get the solar date and weekday.
FAQ
Why are dates before 1900 not supported?
The embedded lunar data table covers 1900 to 2100 only; dates outside this range cannot be accurately converted. For earlier dates, consult dedicated historical calendar resources.
How are leap months determined?
The lunar calendar inserts a leap month roughly every 2-3 years based on solar terms. The data table encodes whether each year has a leap month and which month it is; the dropdown shows a "Leap X" option when applicable.
How is the ganzhi year calculated?
Ganzhi pairs ten heavenly stems with twelve earthly branches in a 60-year cycle. Using 1900 (a Gengzi year) as the anchor, the ganzhi of any lunar year is derived by taking the year offset modulo 10 and 12.
